Last week, we got a chance to go to another of the Gino branches The River North was so nice because of the location, it is conveniently located and next to the all the adorable animals at the Anti Cruelty Society. This time we went further down to the lovely South Loop location. Located on Printers Row, this popular bistro is a mecca for tourists after a busy day of sightseeing. It is perfect because of the proximity to most of the museums. Face it after a day of looking at artworks and dinosaurs , you need a place to rest and recharge. What could be better than some of Gino’s famous deep dish Chicago pizza and a beer? This location has a sports bar feel to it. Diners are surrounded by screens where they can watch their favorite teams. It is a win win situation for the sports fan .
Since we had some of the famous deep dish, we were anxious to try some of the other dishes. Jen chose a good starter, a hearty plate of the old standby Gino’s Deep Dish Nachos. If you are a cheese fan, this is the perfect starter for your meal. They load the chips with all that good stuff like refried beans, olives, red onions, and lots of cheddar cheese. You can also get pico de gallo and jalapenos on the side. Add some meat or chicken for a heartier dish. Since I was at a sports bar , I had to have my wings. These wings are big and tasty, and the sauce I picked was perfect. It was a sweet , sticky sauce that meshed well with the bleu cheese dressing.
Already tried the Gino’s deep dish, we decided to try a thin crust pizza. I must say that the deep dish was the tastier of the two. Even though there was an abundance of cheese, it just seemed like the sister deep dish had more ingredients stuffed in the crust. Also, it held up better when heated up later on that night. It is no wonder that Gino’s deep dish is so well known it can be shipped anywhere and Chicago celebs have had it to shipped to Hollywood as well.
You can’t beat the lunch deal they have though. For only seven twenty five, you get salad, a beverage , and 6′ deep dish pizza. This deal is from 11 to 2 pm Mon thru Fri. That is definitely good news. Pizza isn’t the only thing on the menu . They also have a great selection of salads, sandwiches, and soups as well. Also check out their large beer menu for those March Madness outings. Gino’s East South Loop is located downtown at 521 S Dearborn. Street. Come dine with them soon.
