It’s not ofter you get up and get on a bus, and have a great breakfast at a Mag Mile Hotel. It’s even rarer to get to have that breakfast with the stars of a NBC hit show. Last Saturday, we were invited by the totally adorable Wendy Diamond to her benefit for the wonderful organization, K9forwarriors.
Fellow bloggers Meredith Nichols and Amy Bizzzari were also present at this event. It was a double treat to see one of my favorite authors , Lisa Lockwood attired in bright pink at the Omni that day. She brought her furry baby, Pinky for the festivities as well. We all chatted as we waited to see the very hot stars of “Chicago Fire.” It was so nice to meet Wendy and her baby, Little Hope. She is a very stylish lady who shares our love for God’s furry creatures. We also met Justin, who is a real hero. He was accompanied by his furry bff, Cody.
Since we had already met the “guys”. It was so nice to talk to them again. We told Taylor and David how much we liked the show and were looking forward to Season 2. Taylor assured me “There would be a lot of drama and action. Great storylines for Casey , Severide, and Shay. A lot of good stuff.” he smiled. It was adorable to see him playing in the hallway with David Eigenberg’s son. A look into the future ? Hmmm.
The Omni Hotel generously donated a yummy breakfast, complete with a variety of juices and pastries. Their breakfast sandwiches included a healthy alternative with spinach and egg whites. The room was filled with love as owners and furry friends ate contently and socialized. Water bowls were also provided for the dogs.
Wendy welcomed everyone to the event. She informed everyone that they had were close to meeting their goal. Warrior Justin came forth and told his touching story. His pal, Cody allowed him to go from 43 medications when he returned from service to almost none. These dogs are truly miracle workers and literally saved lives . Next David Eigenberg told everyone the importance of helping our vets . He pointed out that he himself was in the Marines and the memories of his father when he returned from war. I was not aware of the effect of battle, even as far back as WW2. My own brother Terry, was affected when he returned from Vietnam. By listening to these people, I now understand why my late brother acted the way he did. The one speaker that really touched me was Sandi Capra. She spoke so emotionally about her husband and how their own pet helped him to leave the house. “They think they are still fighting a war when they come home. Every noise and every movement reminds them of this fact and makes them more defensive.”
This makes the first stop on the Bark Breakfast Tour which will travel through ten cities to raise funds for K9for warriors. Another special treat was receiving a copy of Wendy’s book, “How to Train Your Boss to Rollover.” (I will be reviewing that book this week) Wendy is also the founder and editor of Animalfair Magazine.
Here is the adorable Wendy Diamond and little Hope who is featured prominently in her book, “How to Teach Your Boss to Rollover.” She was so nice to invite me and Meredith Nichols to the Celebrity Bark Breakfast.
