A Golden Anniversary for GH


On April 1, 1963 , two daytime dramas premiered. One was on NBC and it was called “The Doctors.” Through its doors would pass the future stars Alec Baldwin and Kathleen Turner. But alas “The Doctors.” would fade away.  The other one that premiered that day is still going strong. Fifty years later, “General Hospital” or GH as it is more known is still shocking viewers, offering them thrilling adventures, and bringing back beloved characters.  Many of today’s biggest celebs have walked the floors of “General Hospital”  . Come take a stroll down memory lane as we relive some of the best moments of GH

Jessie_and_SteveEmily McLaughlin and John Beradino played the chief administrators of the hospital since day one. Dr Steve Hardy and Jessie Brewer  ran the hospital in the early days of the show until very recently.  Beradino also received a star on the Walk of Fame for GH’s 30th anniversary.  Both are no longer with us, but their spirits remain .

general-hospital-luke-and-laura-weddingOne of the biggest television events ever was the wedding of Lucas Lorenzo Spencer to Laura Baldwin.  Anthony Geary and Genie Francis were the IT couple of 1981.  Diva Gloria Monty made General Hospital the show to watch in the early 80’s . The couple made the covers of all the magazines of the day , including Newsweek.

stamosGHOne of the biggest stars to come through the GH doors was John Stamos. As “Blackie” he was a bad boy turned good. Stamos hit when he was cast as the beloved “Uncle Jessie” on “Full House”

demiHere is the future star Demi Moore before she gained fame as a movie star and Mrs Bruce Willis. On the show , she was Jackie Templeton

???????????????On Days of our Lives, Stephen Nichols, was too good to be true as super nice guy, Patch. However, he was one of the Cassadines in Port Charles.

richard simmonsThis man needs no introduction as someone who has changed millions of lives and made exercise fun for everyone.  Fitness guru Richard Simmons started “sweatin to the oldies ” on GH.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR Diva Elizabeth Taylor made a dramatic entrance at Luke and Laura’s wedding as Helena Cassadine

james francoJames Franco is a big star now , but he played Franco on the daytime drama

LucyAlan Stuart Damon as formidable patriarch Dr Alan Quartermaine is shown here with Lucy Coe aka Lynne Herring.  Lucy conned Alan into marrying her. Herring’s husband is also a famous soap actor Wayne Northrop or Roman Brady on “Days of our Lives”

edward quartermaine and lila John Ingle remained as the Quartermaine patriarch for 19 years until his death.  Ingle was also a drama teacher whose students included Jonathan Silverman and David Schwimmer. Anna Lee was one of the nuns in the original classic “The Sound of Music”

Springfield GH Heartthrob and eighties rocker Rick Springfield played Dr Noah Drake. Springfield’s hits included “Jessie’s Girl” , “Don’t Talk to Strangers.” and “I’ve Done Everything for You.”

Lucky Spencer Jonathan Jackson started out life as Lucky Spencer, child of Luke and Laura.  Today he sings his heart out as Avery Barkley on ABC’s “Nashville.”
