On April 1, 1963 , two daytime dramas premiered. One was on NBC and it was called “The Doctors.” Through its doors would pass the future stars Alec Baldwin and Kathleen Turner. But alas “The Doctors.” would fade away. The other one that premiered that day is still going strong. Fifty years later, “General Hospital” or GH as it is more known is still shocking viewers, offering them thrilling adventures, and bringing back beloved characters. Emily McLaughlin and John Beradino played the chief administrators of the hospital since day one. Dr Steve Hardy and Jessie Brewer ran the hospital in the early days of the show until very recently. Beradino also received a star on the Walk of Fame for GH’s 30th anniversary. Both are no longer with us, but their spirits remain .
One of the biggest television events ever was the wedding of Lucas Lorenzo Spencer to Laura Baldwin. Anthony Geary and Genie Francis were the IT couple of 1981. Diva Gloria Monty made General Hospital the show to watch in the early 80’s . The couple made the covers of all the magazines of the day , including Newsweek.
Stuart Damon as formidable patriarch Dr Alan Quartermaine is shown here with Lucy Coe aka Lynne Herring. Lucy conned Alan into marrying her. Herring’s husband is also a famous soap actor Wayne Northrop or Roman Brady on “Days of our Lives”
John Ingle remained as the Quartermaine patriarch for 19 years until his death. Ingle was also a drama teacher whose students included Jonathan Silverman and David Schwimmer. Anna Lee was one of the nuns in the original classic “The Sound of Music”
