Saturday night, we got the chance to leave Chicago and be transported to Paris. We were lucky enough to attend the Lyric Opera’s gala, Midnight in Paris.
Party goers began their evening by enjoying the gourmet samplings from the area’s best restaurants. There was everything from hors d’oeuvres to delicious desserts. Everything washed down so well with beer and champagne. During the social hour, attendees could buy raffle tickets or bid on great prizes at the silent auction. Everyone was excited when American Airlines (Official airline of the Lyric Opera) gave away a once in a lifetime trip to London, they also gave away trips to Shanghai and anywhere in the world.
We were also treated to a star studded cabaret with some of the biggest stars of the Lyric Opera. The singers delighted the audience with lite musical fair. One of the musical highlights was Ana Marie Martinez singing the beautiful ballad from “Carousel” “If I Loved You”
Albina Shagimuratova wowed the audience with her coloratura voice and Andrea Silvestrelli showed the power of his voice with “This Was Nearly Mine” Other perforances included Elizabeth Futral, David Cangelosi, Amanda Majeski, Jamie Barton, and Lucas Meachem. The Master of Ceremonies was Maestro Sir Andrew Davis.
There was more food and fun as revelers either attended the VIP gourmet dinner or continued sampling goodies. There was also lost to do like have a tarot reading, a photo booth and an artist doing caricatures.
The party kicked into high gear as the band Rendezvous got the crowd dancing. The big threat of the evening was when Lucas Meachem took the stage and used his beautiful tenor voice to sing Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” He rocked the crowd!
This evening should be considered a success. Everyone had a grand time. We’d like to give special thanks to David “Dutch” Valkema for allowing us to be his guests for an evening that was fantastique!
