We got an early Christmas present this year. Ever since we were both kids, Jen and I wanted to go to Hollywood. Jen has wanted to meet her favorite actor and I have had stars in my eyes. Well this past week, our wish was granted and off we went to Hollywood courtesy of the NBC show , “The Voice.”
The journey began from O’Hare . We also were provided with some great travelling bags , courtesy of Phyllis from Gigi Hill bags. (more about those later) While in one of the airport gift shops, we also met up with an exec from Godiva who gave us a sweet treat for our flight. Leaving the cold wasn’t hard at all, we arrived to the sunshine and seventy degrees.
Surrounded by the warm weather, we were greeted by a town car for our ride to the hotel. We were fortunate enough to get to stay on property at the luxurious Los Angeles Hilton- Universal City. The lobby was decked out in holiday cheer. We settled into our room and then set out to explore Tinseltown.
After the long flight, we were starving so we indulged in one of the hot dogs from Hollywood’s famous landmark “PINKS” LA’s Metra system was a dream compared to the antiquated and dirty CTA, the cars were clean and we could count on the trains to get us there fast and on time. Before we knew it, we were standing on the legendary Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood Blvd was incredible . It is well known for the Walk of Fame. This is a line of stars that contain legends of stage, music, and television. These names line each side of the famous sidewalk. Recent ones to be honored include Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Aniston. Talented wanna be actors and actresses stroll the area, as they try to get noticed and make some money in the process. These actors are usually in costume . We encountered quite a few of them , especially by Graumann’s Chinese Theatre. The theatre is renowned for its collection of movie stars foot prints and hand prints in cement. We were so excited to see the prints of George Clooney and Bruce Willis especially. This is also where we got to see the magnificient Hollywood sign nestled in the Hollywood hills. We ended our long journey by relaxing in the hot tub at the Hilton.
Monday was our day for Universal City Walk and Universal Studios. The trams carry visitors from the parking lots and hotels to Universal daily. These trams were decorated with bright holiday decorations. Universal City Walk is a huge outdoor mall that is filled with shops and great places to eat. Finally it was time to go to the real Universal.
I have been on a lot of movie and tv sets, but I was really excited to get to see a real television soundstage. Universal is part of the large conglomerate that also now owns NBC. Jen got a huge thrill as she actually saw the outside of the soundstage where they film her favorite show , “Go On. Some one even said that they see star, Matthew Perry walking around the lot all the time. But we were there for the hit show . “The Voice.” After a long period of waiting, we were finally escorted to our VIP’s seats. We were not the only winners, but I am convinced that we were the only ones who were familar with the star treatment. Excitement filled the air as Carson Daly announced each contestant and we got a chance to see the famous judges. Our show experience ended with the chance of getting to meet judge and country western star, Blake Shelton. He was so nice. We briefly also bumped into the cool lead of Maroon 5, Adam Levine. There were other celebs in the audience that night as well including Howie Mandel, Joe Pesci, and Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo.
As our car pulled into LAX, it was sad to say goodbye to Hollywood. We were both teary eyed as we thought of the wonderful memories that we had. We both hope in the future to return, me to act and Jen to say hi to Mr. Perry. Time will tell.
