There are many kinds of dramas, medical, crime, and legal. Since the end of the late , lamented “ER” , there have been many pretenders to the throne. Unfortunately, none of them have had the same impact as the original.
Dick Wolf of the Law and Order franchise has managed to do this with his new creation, “Chicago Fire” It captures the realism and heart of these everyday heroes. Shot on the streets of Chicago, it shows these men and women as real life heroes . It also shows that they have flaws and are not gods. This is the way that rescue and fire workers are usually portrayed in the media. Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney are the leads as the rescue workers who have been dealing with the death of one of their fellow fire fighters. If the pilot is any indication, these boys are going to be the new poster boys of Hollywood. Hot doesn’t even describe how absolutely hunky and gorgeous these guys are as they appear shirtless in many of their scenes. One of the senior fire fighters at Station 51 is television icon, David Eigenberg , aka as Steve from Sex and the City. He portrays Christopher Hermann, a fireman who has had his share of bad breaks and has been there and back. Eamonn Walker gives his firemen leadership and also acts as a father figure. His relationship reminds me of James Pickett Jr’s portrayal as “the Chief” on Grey’s Anatomy. There are also positive female role models that are portrayed as EMT’s , Monica Raymund and Lauren German provide that female camaraderie that is necessary in any good television drama. Gabriela , Raymund’s character, makes a tough decision and her partner sticks by it. Leslie Shay, Lauren’s character also reveals in the pilot that she is a lesbian. Hurray ! another lesbian that shows she can be smart and pretty. Pete is that new guy who just wants to fit in and be a hero. Charlie Barnett captures that young spirit in his portrayal of the newbie who has come in after this terrible tragedy. He reminds me of lot of when Noah Wyle’s Dr Carter first walked nervously into the ER . Yuri Sardarov provides the heart and humor in Otis, just trying to fit in as well.
