Everyone Feasts at Quartino’s

Every month, Quartino hosts their wine bash, Chicago’s most savvy relishes this opportunity to try exciting wines, taste amazing food, and socialize . Cordial host, Tony Rice personally invited Jen and I  to be his guests for this month’s bash. It also included a few surprises.

Walking in, I was expecting the usual nibbles like cheese and fried foods. We were treated to a sensual display of smells and sights to tempt the pallet.  Italians are known for their passion for food and I was excited to get to taste real Italian food.  One of my faves was the roasted beet salad with the ricotta salata and walnuts.  Loved the zesty flavor.  Between the giardinera romana and the bruschetta, I  tried a little of it all. This mixed great with the sweet wine that I chose. I also fancied the sicilian caponetta and portabello bruschettas as well.

The evening was far from over. In fact, this was just a teaser for our tastebuds. I must say this , Tony and his staff did a great job of recommendations and just plain hospitality.  He gave his own recommendations and then let us sample them.  Jen enjoyed her Malibu and pineapple juice and I loved the sangria.  So fruity and yummy.  Quartino’s uses only the freshest ingredients and this includes homemade pasta.  I savored the eggplant parmigiana and the pappardelle al dugo di manzo . Jen on the other hand, was in love with the cavatelli with homemade ricotta.  There was no skimping on the cheese and there was plenty of it. Mozzarella covered the eggplant and it was delicious.

We ended this night of heavenly delights with the gran finale of desserts. Tony suggested a few real winners. One of them was his own personal favorite, nutella and strawberries. He also had the friendly waiter bring out some zeppole.  For the uneducated, they are little Italian doughnuts paired with a chocolate spread. We took a few bites of torta al cioccolato with the rich fudge and vanilla gelato , then we decided to make it our weekly snack while watching McDreamy.  All in all, it is a meal I will not soon forget.

Whether it is a special date , or a night at the theatre, Quartino has the elements of a great meal. Pair the great food with the friendly servers and atmostphere, you will have a winner of an evening. Quartino is located in the heart of the Gold Coast at 626 N State Street.  Manga!

Here is a specialty of the house, Ravioli with braised pork and sauce. Delicioso

This eggplant parmigiana looks as good as it tastes and covered with mozzarella . My fave!

This torta al cioccalato was the perfect end to a phenomenal meal.

Here we are with our new friend, Tony. He and his staff will take good care of you too. We promise to come back soon.
