Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey in “The Green Mile” . This was Duncan’s most famous role in which he was nominated for the Oscar.
We received some very sad news today. Michael Clarke Duncan died this afternoon while recovering from a heart attack in LA. He was stricken on July 13 and never recovered. Duncan is a Chicago native who is known for his television and movie roles . Some of his most famous ones include “Bear” in “Armageddon” , “Frankie Figgs Figueroa” in “The Whole Nine Yards.” and his most current work in the series , “The Finder.” Duncan had two dreams in his life , to be an actor and to play football. His mother did not want him to play as a child, but as an adult, he tried out for the Chicago Bears in the mid eighties. Duncan may have dug ditches in Chicago, but in LA he fulfilled his other dream. Michael started in show business as a body guard to such luminaries as Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, and the late Notorious B.I.G. Starting in small roles, he worked his way up until he gained critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for “Green Mile.” Just proves that actors all pay their dues.
Michael is survived by his girlfriend, Omarosa and a sister. We at chitownstarconnections want to give our sympathy to the family.
Here is Michael in the 1998 hit movie “Armageddon” Duncan would do a total of four movies with fellow actor , Bruce Willis. Willis also recommended Duncan for the role of “Bear” in the movie.
