Last Monday, Brenda Leigh Dawson left the LAPD , but she didnt leave without any problems. She had made a promise to a young boy named Rusty to find his mother. Brenda didn’t have time to find her , so he became the new dilemma for Capt Sharon Raydor. Raydor is played by longtime favorite Mary McDowell. McDowell is a two time Oscar nominee. She was the First Lady in Independence Day and has the claim to fame of being on the original sitcom in the eighties titled ER. (also with George Clooney) Recently , she made an appearance on Grey’s Anatomy as an eccentric surgeon who was supposed to be a mentor to Christina Yang.
Raydor has her own set of problems as well. One of the biggest thorns in her side is Lt Louis Provenza . played by Police Academy alum , GW Bailey. Provenza comes over from The Closer and thought that he would be in charge now that Brenda was gone. But the Commander appointed Raydor , and Provenza is fighting her tooth and nail. He is a chauvinist and has problems taking orders when he feels he should be in charge. Other characters have made the switch like Andy Flynn, Michael Tao, Julio Sanchez, and Buzz Watson. Guest starring for a few episodes are also Robert Gossett as the Commander and Jon Tenney as FBI Agent Fritz Howard . Sharon and company will also be joined by Amy Sykes, a new fresh and ambitious undercover detective who becomes another problem for Provenza. He better watch out for her because she served in Afghanistan. Graham Patrick Martin should be given special kudos for his performance as Rusty. He has taken a character that could be defined as incorrigible and instead made him endearing. Love the dynamic and the love-hate relationship between him and McDonnell. This is something to watch alone, never mind the mind bending cases of the Major Crimes team.
Major Crimes airs on Monday night , right before the new hit drama “Perception” on TNT.
