The music of the eighties was a part of all of us. It brings back memories of romance, school, and rock! Everyone loves to crank up the tunes and dance. Now you can relive the best moments of your life with “Rock of Ages” , a feel good , high energy musical that is playing for nine weeks at the Broadway Playhouse as part of the Broadway in Chicago series.
Energy is a large part of this show. The show opens with hard pounding rock numbers as the cast dances on stage. Girls in skimpy costumes shimmy and shake in numbers that remind audience members of routines reminiscent of “Solid Gold” Our story begins as the young Sheree , arrives in LA in search of stardom. Shannon Miller captures the innocence as the “small town in a lonely world” Dominique Scott captures the drive of “city boy ” who strives to be a rocker in the age of the arena bands. Justin Columbo entertains the audience as bad boy Lonny and their bromance is further played out by the owner of the doomed club, Jacob L Smith. The pair play very well off of each other. One of the highlights of the show is the amazing vocals of Amma Osei as the proprietor of the Venus strip club. She could shake the rafters with those pipes. She totally blew me away with that voice! Trying to save the Bourbon Club , Katie Postonik shines as the hippie like Regina. Combining her acting talents with her vocal talents, she charms the audience as she fights against progress. Matt Nolan captures the desperation to keep the fame he once has as Stacie Jaxx. His ego driven rock god had its comical and sad moments. The cast also utilizes audience participation as they add a few surpises to the delight of the audience.
You will be singing along to all of your favorite tunes as they are a huge part of the show. There will be dancing and I dare anyone to stay still as they rock on with the cast on stage. So you wanna rock? Then crimp your hair, put on the neon and acid washed denim and prepare for the feel good musical of the summer. For ticket info go to http://www.BroadwayinChicago.com.
