Candy Land Comes to Chicago

The logo from the Sweets and Snacks expo that took place last week at McCormick Place. All photography is by Jennifer Hedrick.

Everyone has played the game “Candy Land” where the players embark on a journey through a magical land of candy and goodies.  Well two days last week, we were in a “real ” candy land at the NCA Sweets and Snacks Expo.  The NCA is the trade association for the confectionery industry and its customers.  Exhibitors bring their wares so that customers can see and purchase the most innovative and creative ideas for their businesses.  Chitownstarconnections was once again privileged to get to embark on this magical place.  So forget the gym and the diets as we act like kids again.

This replica of the “Bean” is made from Jelly Bellys It was made by students at the French Pastry School and After School Matters

This candy reminds me of my late mother , the SS teacher . They actually sell candy that teaches kids all about the Bible.

Brat Bear was a candy dispenser that allowed you to make it any way you wanted to. Glam or gory! It was from the creative folks at Candy Planet. It was fun too!

Here are our bears! Aren’t they glam and fierce?

What a treat. What’s New Cupcake creator , Alan Richardson does a demo with some tasty decorations. His works are genius!

Here is a delicious plate of Nachos. Surprise ! there is only candy and sweets in this dish.  No cheese!

Jimmy Choos ? No Duncan Hines! Perfect for all those fashionista parties.

I loved the name of this company and their s’mores were delicious.

Jelly Belly’s colorful display was fun to look at and even better to try all the great new flavors like the chocolate dippers that taste like chocolate covered cherries.

Turkey Creek snacks brought a healthy alternative to traditional pork rinds,  less salt than traditional potato chips and in different flavors. Delicious!

Imagining Three Inc. brings pop culture to the show as they display these candies with the popular video game Angry Birds

My idol pops brings the summer movie to the show with Madagascar 3 suckers in the shape of the popular animals from the Dreamworks movie series. My fave! Melman and yes I have one.

Rose Char  holds up her delicious candy . It is chocolate and Macadamia Nuts and so good. Love to be fed this by Dan O and McGarrett since it is from Hawaii. Hawaiian Host is sold by the finest hotels on the islands.

Jen poses with one off the colorful creatures at the show. Just Born had a great booth spotlighting their hot seller, the peeps
