For a few days, McCormick Place and the City of Chicago play host to the gourmets and restauranteurs of the world. They come to the Windy City to buy and try new and exciting products for the restaurant and hospitality industries. The National Restaurant Show is much more than food. It is what food is cooked in, served on, dished out, and presented on. Chefs and restaurant owners can also attend seminars and meet such famous chefs like our own Rick Bayless and Stephanie Izzard. What is all of this like to an aspiring foodie? Sheer heaven! Come along on our journey as we wander through this eater’s Disneyland. We will meet some exciting people and get them to tell us all about their products.. Some products might be familar, but some are new and exciting.
One of the best hot dogs on the market and an old favorite is Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. This was one of the most popular booths at the show.
Presentation is the key for a restaurant . This lovely display was from Oneida.
Reps from the Hormel Company are so happy to have guests try their food . This was a selection of their pork products, including a sweet tasting bacon.
Hammy ham! I love it! This was from the great folks at Dietz and Watson.
Jennie O also had a chef who prepared a delicious sandwich made with their turkey , a spreadable brie, and avocado. Many professional chefs aid the vendors by preparing gourmet dishes with their products.
One of this show’s biggest trends is to make dining more kid friendly. Kid Stuff specializes in selling toys to restaurants for their guests children. This is meant to make dining more pleasant.
Another facet of dining out is the take out container. This company gave a colorful presentation of their different models . I never realized that this was part of restaurant buying.
It’s a Jacuzzi for dishes. Gets them clean.
Chicago’s own Turano bread has a beautiful reproduction of an Italian village to sell their products.
And you meet interesting characters there too!
It’s Cinco de Mayo at the festive Jarrito booth. Part Two explores the new and exciting products that I found at the NRA show and also the great block party in River North.
