There are a lot of great perks to this job goody bags, getting into great parties, and this, I got to have pizza with the cast of “Jersey Boys.” Thanks to Home Run Pizza and the great folks at Broadway in Chicago, they invited the press to dine on some great pizza and meet the four guys that become the “Four Seasons” as the hit show travels through Chicago. We were also celebrating the 65th anniversary of Home Run Pizza . We were treated to some great pizza and food. To add to the fun, the four young men tried their skills at pizza making for a local tv show.Got to admit , singing and pizza making, these boys have talent. Between pizza making and socializing , I got a chance to talk to two of the boys, John Gardiner and Joseph Leo Bwarie . John plays musician Tommy DeVito and Joseph plays legend Frankie Valli.
I loved John’s Jersey accent and asked him how he learned it. He informed me that he lived in Jersey for three years. He never thought that he would get a chance to use it this way. He also looks forward to getting a chance to explore Chicago while the show runs. I gave him some great restaurant tips. He said that he liked Chicago because of its “Midwestern feel.” I also like to ask other actors what is there dream role? John gave me two great answers, “Benedict” in “Much Ado About Nothing.” and “Harold Hill ” in “The Music Man.” His guitar playing in the show was totally amazing. He also informed me that Bob Gaudio was actually at his audition and that the boys usually run into Frankie Valli while on the road. John thinks that the music of show is timeless and his favorite song of the Four Seasons is “Who Loves You.”
The other cast member I got to chat with was Joseph . Joseph has the privilege to be Frankie Valli on stage every night. His singing voice can’t be described, it’s that good. Joe has also had the honor of performing at the 63rd Tony and Academy Awards presentations. He also just released his own album “Nothin But Love.” Joe looks forward to getting to clothes shop and eat some great Chicago food while here. Joseph’s dream role is to originate something that has never been done. Since he has performed in the show in over forty cities, I asked him what was his favorite performance highlight was and he gave me the greatest answer,”Every night has its highlight performances.” His favorite Frankie song is “Workin My Way Back to You.”
These guys are awesome and if you haven’t seen the show yet, give yourself a treat and go. Might even make a great gift for Mom. Once again, thanks Broadway in Chicago, Home Run Pizza, and the great cast of “Jersey Boys”
