It’s A Grrand Night for Oscar!

The Oscars could be described as the “Super Bowl” for the entertainment industry.  In a town that is so involved in the business of show biz, it was hard to pick a venue to celebrate my industry on this grand night of glamor.   The Gene Siskel Film Center  is a film theatre that caters to the art of motion pictures.  What would be more perfect than celebrating Oscar at this place?  And Chitownstarconnections was invited to party with Chicago’s most glamourous at a benefit for the Film Center’s great programs .

As a set of spotlights announced to the passer-bys  that this was where the true party was, we knew it would be as close as we could get to the actual ceremony.  This was truly the case when we found out that all attendees would receive the actual poster that were being used to advertise the ceremony . That wasn’t all, we also got an official program for the broadcast showing all the nominees and film presentations of the show. Gene Siskel has the honor to be the lone venue that boasts being the only Academy sanctioned  party in Chicago.

As we entered the film center, we were greeted with temptation. Long time fave Fanny Mae, tempted us with sweet chocolates  made with original flavors like lemonade, peanut butter fudge, hazelnut.  Since I had burned it at yoga earlier, i indulged in the sweet goodies. Remembering what my late mother said about spoiling my dinner, I only tried a few and vowed they would make a good snack during the ceremony.  This would be a good decision since we were told about the sumptuous Oscar feast prepared by the chefs at MJ Catering and Events . After nibbling on h or derves made of goat cheese, and asparagus and chicken, I was ready for the buffet dinner.  MJ was very clever by using the Oscar theme for their meal. There were cheesy potatoes that were gobbled up by Jen to represent the film “The Help.”  There was also a tray of vegetables for “The Tree of Life” , a yummy salmon with pineapple salsa for the George Clooney film “The Descendants,”  a chicken and asparagus creation for Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” and the buffet was finished off with the Scocese masterpiece, Hugo with a thyme beef en crute dish.   There was also champagne that freely flowed as well as some themed cocktail concoctions for the celebration. One I favored was called the Lemony Snicket that tasted like lemonade .  Dessert was provided by the awesome people at Eli’s Cheesecake  and oh , was it good. People could also much on cheese  carmel mix from Gary Poppins as well.  Everyone had a marvelous time.

Fannie Mae tempted us with these lovely chocolates served by these lovely ladies. Look at the chocolate. Yum!

Our theme buffet by MJ catering and events and Currents restaurant. Clever huh?

Jen gobbled up these Southern Style Au Gratin Potatoes inspired by the Oscar winning picture “The Help” Look at the cheese!

Martin and George would have loved these dishes inspired by their movies “Hugo” and “The Descendants”  It’s a salmon with a sweet pineapple salsa and a thyme beef en crute .  The fish was so good I didnt mind eating it on a Sunday. LOL

Woody would have wanted to gobble up this tasty asparagus and gruyere tart inspired by his movie “Midnight in Paris.”

The best way to enjoy Oscar ! with a few samples of Eli’s Cheesecake in flavors like Mounds, Brownie, Raspberry Lemon Tart, and of course original.

The ultimate film critics the late Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. I remember watching them back in Ohio on their show “At The Movies.”  Great fun when they disagreed.

What a great keepsake of Oscar Night. It is the same program that everyone was given in Hollywood and here is the insert from the party.  There were many great prizes given during the night and a raffle that offered everything from restaurant gift certificates to sporting events.

Allen greeted people as they arrived. He was inspired by the winner for best picture “The Artist.”Doesn’t he look dapper? He actually won one of the prizes for best dressed.

Renny used her love of all things vintage to create old time Hollywood glamour from the twenties. Doesn’t she look glamorous ?

Chitownstarconnections was at THE Oscar Party . Thanks Gene Siskel for a great time!
