A Tasty Little Nook on Bryn Mayr -Nookies Comes to Edgewater

A great way to spend an afternoon is to volunteer and reward yourself with a great dinner.  Recently, we ventured to the newest Edgewater  bistro with a very familiar name , Nookies. Nookies just recently opened another location on Bryn Mayr and we were fortunate enough to get to try some of the delicious dishes that the restaurant is famous for.

Our host was Michael and he had some great suggestions on what we should try.  We started off with a couple appetizers .  First we tried baked goat cheese , consisting of a marninara sauce topped with chunks of goat cheese and piping hot.  The appetizer was accompanied by tiny slices of French bread.   The other appetizer we definitely enjoyed courtesy of Michael’s recommendation. It was a chicken and cheese quesadilla that made our mouths water.  It was filled with strings of gooey chihuhua  cheese, chunks of smoked chicken,  carmelized onions, and sweet potatoes.  Love that chipotle and sweet potato mix.

Our fave , the chicken quesadilla filled with chihuhua cheese, smoked chicken that was smoked on the premises, carmelized onions and sweet potatoes, accompanied by chipotle mayo

Hot cross buns , a traditional Lenten bread accompanied the meal to come.  We knew we were in for a treat and old time Motown was pumped in for atmosphere. It was a very homey place, with modern touches. It was comfort food that was mixed with gourmet fare. That was just fine with me.

We decided to try entries that we would both enjoy. Jen spotted a chicken  pizzaola with lightly breaded chicken , covered with mozzarella cheese (big surprise)  and tomato sauce.   The dish was served over linguini and it met with her approval .   I , on the other hand always love trying barbecue since it reminds me of home. Michael had bragged about the smoked meats that are aged for about seven hours in house . I decided to try the ribs and was not disappointed . I am in love with their sweet , tangy barbecue sauce.  I was brought a two huge racks of ribs ,corn bread,  homemade cole slaw, and sweet potato fries . I was a little hesistant to try the fries , but they were huge, crispy, and a great side with the chipotle mayo. Needless to say , there was food left over and we had to save room for dessert.

You can’t come to Nookies and not try the desserts. Nookies also serves breakfast all day long and boasts everything from healthy egg white omelets to the seasonally sweet plum pudding pancakes.  The dinner menu and dessert menu are rotated daily.  What do two women want for dessert? Chocolate of course! and Nookies served it up with a not one , not two, but quadruple chocolate cake.  It was deeelicious and another reason to send me to the gym.

Nookies has two other locations,  Old Town, Lakeview, and now at 1100 Bryn Mawr .  For a great gourmet meal that is guaranteed to satisfy , try Nookies.
