Rockit Takes the Chill out of Winter

As the winter wind blows through the Windy City, there’s a place you can go to warm up.  What a coincidence, it’s one of my favorite places the Rockit.  But today, we venture to the flagship restaurant at 22  W Hubbard.   That is one thing I can say about either Rockit, they always make me feel like I am at home.

When we came in, we were served some delicious samples of chili that were prepared by Chef Amanda.  Amanda Downing is the chef at Rockit where these hearty dishes were especially prepared for the fourth annual ChiliFest. Along with the samples, we were treated with a tableside visit from Chef Amanda.  It was so great to actually meet someone who has such passion for food, and also to tell her how much we enjoyed some of her signature dishes.  Amanda explained each chili that we would be trying and its ingredients.  I was wary because I thought that any of the chilis might be too hot.  The best thing about these dishes is that each of them had a pleasant taste and also their own personality.

The first dish was a vegan chili. It will be served all week as an alternative for vegans. It had in it a soy sausage, instead of meat. It also had a mixture of spices in it like cumin and cilantro.  It did have an interesting taste , but I am a meat girl.

The second one that we got to try was a pork chili. It contained a green chile rubbed pork shoulder , with white beans , queso fresco and tomatillo salsa.  The pork taste was a homey one that I associated with the pork and sauerkraut of my childhood back in Ohio. It is a New Year’s tradition. It was yummy.

The last one was the one I was looking forward to the most.  The lamb chili was made with ground lamb and pieces of lamb sausage .It contained chickpeas and bell peppers. The crowning touch was the garnish of the goat cheese . I loved the tomatoey taste and the cheese was the best.  Chilifest continues until the end of the week at Rockit Bar and Grill in River North as well as the sister restaurant Rockit Wrigley. So if you want to taste something good that will warm you up , go to Rockit Bar and Grill for Chilifest.

One of the hottest spots in River North,  Rockit Bar and Grill has been a fixture for foodies, tourists, and celebs.  Many sports, television, and movie actors have dined here.

Thanks a lot Chef Amanda it was great as always!
