When I initially picked up Jennifer Hudson’s book to read, I thought it was going to be a testimonial for Weight Watchers. I was pleasantly surprised and found myself not being able to put the book down.
The world now knows the story of Jennifer’s triumphs and her tragedies, so she doesn’t elaborate on those. Instead she uses her book, as an inspiration for people to make choices in their lives. It doesn’t matter if someone wants to lose weight and eat healthier or go for their dreams., they will be inspired by this book. Jennifer talks about the emotional ride she took from the time of her appearances on American Idol through the life altering role in “Dream Girls.” She takes the reader on her journey from unknown to “star”. Jennifer also talks about the battle she had in Hollywood as a big girl. There is definitely an image factor in Hollywood and she fought that dead on in her career. As an actress that is considered plus size at size ten, I could totally relate to this.
Jennifer also describes with passion her love affair with motherhood, as well as the other man in her life, her fiance , David. It is a saga that gives us all hope.
If you are someone who is going through a life change, you really need to read this book. I also think that young girls should read it because Jennifer is truly an inspiration. She went from the ghetto ridden South side of Chicago and made herself fabulous. This makes her a positive African American role model to young girls who really don’t have that many personal role models around them. Believe me, I see these girls on the busses and trains every day. They just make me shake my head. I give props to anyone who breaks the circle and rises up. Jennifer should be very proud of herself and it is obvious she has not forgotten where she came from by her charitable work. This is what truly makes her a real star.
