A Warrior Loses the Fight

A sad lull comes over the Windy City tonight as a city mourns a great lady.  Maggie Daley died this evening after fighting a valiant fight that began with breast cancer and mestasized to her other organs and bones. Earlier this year, Richard Daley left his position as Mayor of Chicago. It is now known that he just wanted to spend more time with his wife who had given her all to help her husband in his own political career. Maggie did have her own agenda, she championed for the poor , the LGBT community and also the arts. She established a program called After School Matters that allowed teens the choice to take classes out of school.  I know first hand about someone who has fought the battle and lost. But did she really lose? She survived enough to make a difference in this city. She may have established a program that gave birth to the next Jennifer Hudson or Bernie Mac.  And the woman was well loved and spent her life dedicated to her husband and her family. It would only be fitting that her husband would do the same. So I give my sympathy tonight to the Daley family and the city of Chicago,  she may have lost the battle but we will continue the fight , for the underprivileged  for the arts, and now I am sure for cancer.
